1. Total Capacity of Expansion Tanks in Dormitory
Given:
Boiler Capacity 250 gals
Radiators 455 gals
Air Handling Unit 50 gals
Heat Exchanger 135 gals
Water Inside Pipe 170 gals
Total Gallons 1060 gals
Solution:
Pf = Static Pressure of the Fluid in the Tank when the system is filled (psig)
H = Distance of the inlet of expansion Tank to the top of the system (ft)
Dc = Density of the Fluid at its initial temperature (ib/ft3)
Vt = Minimum required Tank volume (gals)
Vs = Fluid Volume in the system (gals)
Vt = Vs (Dc/Dh-1)
14.7 (1/Pf+14.7 - 1/Prv+9.7)
Where :
Pf = H (Dc/144)+5
H = 46Ft
Vs = 1060 gals
Prv = 90 psi
Dc = 62.4lb/ft3 @ 50 0F
Dh = 61.25lb/ft3 @ 150 0F
Pf = 46(62.4/144)N
= 24.9~25psi
Vt = 1060 (62.4/61.25-1)
14.7 (1/25+14.7 - 1/90+9.7)
= 19.9/0.22
Vt = 90.45 gals plus 10%
= 99.5 gals
= Say 100 gals
